ABC Ginger Bread Cookie Cutters
Real mature, no? And that’s only fair people, it’s a COOKIE. And cookies should be fun. Even if you’re not ten. After years of holiday baking and crafting anatomically correct reindeer, I decided that shaped cookies need to break out of their token time periods. Now, I make dog biscuit shaped cookies for people in June. Mangled wee ginger people whenever I darn well want to. Plus, the world it seems is catching up with me. Yes, yes, cupcakes are queen now. I get it. But when it passes the cookie will still be here. Waiting its turn.
Years of dementing and carving my own cutters to be more entertaining have resulted in my love of these oxymoronic pre-bitten wee folk. And guess what – you don’t have to just make them out of ginger bread dough. GASP. I know. It’s madness. But if you do sugar cookies, they still look good. If you use them on pancakes – yes hotcakes of all things – they make kids laugh.
Reach with me people, this is fun we’re talking about. Maybe you don’t have to put tiny x’s on their eyes and make them bleed raspberry preserves like we do. But they’re still awesome. I’ve thought about other uses. In the back of my head I see meatloaf slices with gravy wounds… personal pizza bites… get the picture?
Shapes. Everybody likes them a little. And morbid humor, only the best people. As a famous person once said, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, come sit by me.” Get a little funky with your food I say! And make cookies. There’s no off-season for cookies. Really.
