A short history of sweets
What we know today as sweets, in fact, only around since the 19th century. In truth, we always had a sweet - honey was eaten for centuries, and those who lived in the Middle Ages, the number of sweet love - but expensive - food.
Indeed, in the early history of the "sweet foods", the poor rarely eat anything sweet, if it was flavored with honey - it was only the wealthy who could pay for sweet foods. The French love their nougat in the 17th century, and let's not forget how much the Spanish love chocolate, when they came to him in South America. Chocolate did much to sweeten the collective teeth of Europeans, as it spread like wildfire across the continent. He was not, although until the 19th century that the Europeans have decided to eat chocolate - it was a drink. Not just hot chocolate as we know and love today, but a rich, smooth drink that was drunk as a coffee - and still today, if you visit Italy.
Nevertheless, it was the Industrial Revolution - and cheaper than sugar - which led to the candy we know and love today. The fact that the candy will not hand means that they can be mass produced in factories, and the first sweets included caramel, marshmallow, and one of the earliest was the Turkish delight. This step of the handmade candy factory to the poor have easy access to sweets - they were available in the public en masse for the first time.
Seaside Rock was invented in the late 19th century, along with Jelly Babies, Liquorice allsorts and favorite playground, Candy Floss. Gradually, these sweets was associated with the holidays. Easter egg was invented - to prove that the relation between Easter and the chocolate is nothing historical in general - and the 20 th century saw an explosion in chocolate-based confectionery.
Chips is a relative newcomer on the market since 1960. Today, chips and sweets everywhere, crowding the main streets and supermarkets as well as old-fashioned retro sweet shops are built in cities across the country. Even with the demise of Woolworths in the UK, Pick N Mix is still incredibly popular. As doctors continue to tell us sweets are harmful to our diet, but more in the place of sweet nostalgia - nostalgia for the sweetness of youth and time associated with them. This means that the chocolate with the 1970s and 1980s, suddenly began to emerge, partly because of Facebook campaigns, largely thanks to astute marketers.
Today, go online merchants Pick'n'Mix - with greater access to a wider range of sweetness, people are attracted to opportunities and more attention to what they want. One thing is for sure, but - that our sweet tooth will not go away just yet.
